About
Kathy Hyland
Kathy lives in Cahir, Co. Tipperary. She graduated from the Personal Counselling
Institute College, validated by the University of Middlesex in 2014, with a BSc level
8 and Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as Colour Therapy.
She also holds a Level 6 in both Advanced Adlerian Psychology, Jungian Psychology and Art
Therapy. She is fully accredited Counsellor with IACP.
She has been running her private practice both from Cahir since 2014 and Limerick since
2017. She is currently working as an Associate of Oakwood Psychology Services in Limerick
and with Employment Assisted Program Providers of counselling services such as Inspire, Workplace Options, Lifeworks/Telus, Towards Healing and Huntington’s Disease Services.
She is an experienced counsellor, having
come across a wide variety of unique cases to date. She has previously worked with “Lets Get Talking", in
Galway, Residential Addiction Rehabilitation Centres such as Cuan Mhuire, Bruree and
Saoirse, Outpatient service in Limerick.
She currently supports clients through face to face, zoom or telephone counselling. This variety of options has
proven most helpful to Clients from a geographical, time, family, physical disability/illness
and work wise perspective.
Her therapeutic approach offers clients, first and foremost a non
judgemental, safe space, whereupon the client will learn to feel safe enough to be their
most vulnerable self. She provides an empathetic, person centred, encouraging, solution
focused model of treatment. She firmly believes in the quote “There go I, but for the
grace of God"

She combines her knowledge, wisdom, experience and training to date to provide
a supportive, kind and compassionate listening ear, treating everyone as wholly individual
in their own right. In order find the courage and strength within to change what they
can, accept what they can’t, and learn to live more creatively with what they cannot change.
She assists clients through the mind field of issues that arise from:
Anxiety
Stress
Depression
Addiction,
Sickness,
Trauma,
Bereavement,
Fertility,
Miscarriage,
Divorce/Separation,
Parenting,
Life
Stage Crisis,
Phobias,
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder,
Parent – Teenager Dynamics,
Career
Paths/Difficulties,
Bi Polar Disorder,
Communication/Conflict Resolution
Bullying,
Relationships
Work Related Concern
Marital Concerns
Family Concerns
Social Anxiety
Dissociative Disorder
and the myriad of other issues that can stem from living our lives.
She uses a wide range of integrative and creative therapies in correlation with the client’s issues
and needs such as CBT, SFBT, Motivational Interviewing, Gestalt, Psycho Education,
Art/Colour therapies, the art of Mindfulness, Visualisation, Meditation, Spirituality,
Biodynamics, Somatic Therapy, with self care and stress relief strategies also offered.
She sees the Client as the expert on themselves, meeting the Client where they are at, taking their
lead as to the direction, pace and level of emotional discomfort they are willing to express
or experience. She journeys, explores, collaborates with them on the issues that are causing them
distress or anxiety, or perhaps considering what has or is not working for them in their lives
right now. She assists them to stay with their pain and helps them to come to understand what their pain
is communicating to them, move through the situation. To figure out what might work for them to resolve
the situation, find tools or strategies to deal with the problem that are a good fit for them,
help them make sense of their concerns, move to a new perspective and uncover
personal insight around the situation. Sometimes, just talking it through, being heard
and understood with empathy and compassion lessens the pressure and gives a welcome
relief to the client.
She sees clients engaging in counselling, as offering themselves a great gift, as a life skills
program can evolve as a result of the personal development that can develop from this kind
of engagement. Resulting in a person who is more resilient, resourceful and with strategies to deal with
whatever comes to test them. She helps the clients recognise the importance of self care. Gradually
over time they give themselves permission to put themselves first, asserting themselves as and
when needed, learning to trust their own inner guiding compass, which over time allows them
to believe in themselves. They begin to function from a better sense of self, having practiced
loving care, encouragement, support, acknowledgement, promoting, best friending self to become
best version of self, understanding and appreciating ones uniqueness and talents.
She is passionate, authentic and committed to her work, having a great interest in the unique
personalities that present to her clinic. Knowing that with kind, caring, compassionate and
genuine attention they can become the best version of themselves. Gradually helping them to
honour their own wisdom, tap into themselves, regain their confidence and control over their
lives once more that they may feel they had lost.
